The Story Behind T.S. Borges

Centro T.S. Borges was born from an inheritance, a love of travel, and a deep passion for literature. It all began with a house in La Paz that once belonged to my grandmother. When I inherited it, I felt a strong desire to turn it into something meaningful—something that would honor her memory while opening its doors to the world.
As someone who travels often, I’ve spent countless nights in hostels across different countries. Each stay made me think: I could do this better. I imagined a hostel that wasn’t just about beds and bookings, but about community, culture, and connection.
At the same time, literature has always been a central part of my life. I’m lucky to have the time to read and reflect, and two authors in particular have shaped me deeply: Jorge Luis Borges and T.S. Eliot. Their work changed the way I see the world—and I know that many young people, especially in under-resourced areas, rarely get the chance to access these voices. I wanted to change that.
So T.S. Borges is more than just a hostel. It’s also a free educational space, where international students come to Bolivia as interns to teach short workshops on poetry, storytelling, and imagination to public school students.
This project stands at the crossroads of hospitality and humanism, of travel and the written word. Because we believe that sharing a book can be just as powerful as sharing a roof.
